What Is The RBA Rome Scholarship?
The Rome Scholarship is an award offered annually to an emerging artist. The Royal Society of British Artists (RBA) is able to offer the Rome Scholarship due to the generous bequest from the late Mr. GH Benn in memory of his late wife Marianne Von Werther, a former member of the RBA. This is an excellent opportunity for young Artists!
What Does The Rome Scholarship Offer?
The Rome Scholarship offers one emerging artist the chance to spend one month at the British School in Rome in July! The award includes comfortable accommodation in a study bedroom, breakfast and evening meals and a return flight – not that you will want to come back!
Who Can Enter The Rome Scholarship?
The Rome Scholarship is open to final year students and recent graduates. The work submitted must be figurative. Conceptual or abstract work will not be accepted. The award seeks emerging artists who can demonstrate a high standard of draftsmanship.
Who Won The Rome Scholarship 2014?
Tom Greenwood, a student of the London Atelier of Representational Art (LARA), won the Rome Scholarship 2014.
How Do I Enter The Rome Scholarship?
Applicants should submit six images of recent work by email or on a CD. A shortlist of four candidates will be invited to an interview at the Mall Galleries, London, in January 2015.
The shortlisted candidates will be invited to submit one piece of work to the Royal Society of British Artists’ Annual Exhibition at the Mall Galleries in March 2015. The winner of the Rome Scholarship 2015 will be announced at the Private View Exhibition.
Applications must be received by the 31st December 2014 with interviews to commence in January 2015.
Subject to Council approval, selected samples of work resulting from the stay in Rome may be shown at the annual exhibition.
