Who Are The ASC?
ASC (Artists Studio Company) is a leading provider of affordable artist’s studio space in the UK and currently provide units to over 700 creatives across 11 sites. Founded in 1995 the ASC is a registered charity which aims to support visual and performing artists and to educate the wider public in the arts.
What Does The ASC Offer?
Along with studio space the ASC offer affordable office space and a free advisory service to charitable and not for profit arts organisations, run educational programmes and The ASC Gallery in Southwark SE1.
The gallery opened in 2010 and runs five exhibitions per year along with talks and live events. The aim of the ASC Gallery is to provide a space for work that may struggle to find a suitable platform elsewhere. The gallery works with the artists to create work directly for the space without the pressure of commercial consideration. This frees the artist from commercial limitations. The gallery is housed within ASC’s headquarters in Southwark SE1.
Three of the ASC studio sites have exhibition space. Giving the artists within these sites the opportunity to exhibit their own work and curate with other artists.
Visual artists from all ASC studios are welcome to exhibit in the Window Space at the Blackfriars Rd SE1 site. The work is selected by the ASC Gallery.
Where Can I See Work Created By The ASC’s Artists?
You can find work on display at the following sites as well as at various open studios and organised exhibitions. Look on the website for upcoming event information.
ASC Window Space, ASC Studios, Erlang House, Blackfriars Rd, London SE1 8EQ

The ASC opened a studio space in Hawks Rd, Kingston upon Thames in 2013. The former 1950’s joinery factory now holds 60 studios offering free broadband, off road loading and gallery space. This studio provision was very welcome with Kingston being home to a high number of artists and designers.
ASC Kingston hold two open studios each year offering a chance to visit the artists collectively in their working environments and buy original art directly from them. Commission free!
When Are The Next ASC Kingston Open Studios?
ASC Kingston will be opening its doors on the weekends of the 7th – 8th June and 14th – 15th June 2014. The studio space is a 10 minute walk from Norbiton or Kingston train stations. See beautiful organic ceramic sculptures by Ben Nicolas and oil paintings by Paul Smith, my personal favourite. Get down there and support your local artists.
Keep up to date with ASC Kingston on Facebook.

Just Graduated? What Can The ASC Studios Do For You?
ASC have recently introduced the Incubator Workspace for recent graduates. This is a studio opportunity for artists that have graduated within the last two years. The scheme will provide 18 studios for recent graduates with rent of £35 per week including heating, buildings insurance, business rates and electricity. A pretty good deal!
The open studio space has been designed to give a community feel that will hopefully encourage collaboration among the artists. ASC will also be providing a gallery space and shop window display areas. This will offer exhibition and promotional opportunities. The graduates will be encouraged to join an exhibitions committee with the aim of self- managing the gallery and window space. This really is a great opportunity to gain experience in the many areas required to be a successful practicing artist.
There is a maximum occupancy period of two years and to apply you must supply evidence that you have left arts education within the last two years.
